Tailgating in Braves country

I just love Turner Field. Every time we go to a game, it's so exciting! And this weekend we discovered the tailgating in certain lots before the Braves games is a lot like football tailgates back in NC (that we miss oh so much).
...complete with games of cornhole, people grilling and music blaring from car stereos. It was a whole new Braves game experience. Awesome!

And then the Braves won with 2 home runs in the 8th inning! Woohoo!!
I'm convinced our hats are lucky ;)

diy: tissue paper flower wreath

I can't believe I still haven't shared with you one of my favorite projects from the Cinco de Mayo festivities! A tissue paper flower wreath!! It's like a wreath full of poms! So cool, right?
I hung it on the front door and made 3 single colored fringe garlands to put at the top. Our front door basically screamed Fiesta! when you walked up to it. It was awesome. And the wreath was so easy to make! You could make it in any color - for a birthday, shower, football game, whatever you want! Here's how I did it...
I used 2 cereal boxes (yes, cereal boxes... I know you have the materials for this project on hand!) and taped them together. Then I drew out the circle shape I wanted my wreath to be in and cut out the middle. It was not my best circle cutting efforts, folks, but I then covered the whole thing in tissue paper flowers so nobody noticed. ;) The rest is easy, you know how to make poms (accordion fold and fluff!) All of my flowers were 2 colors and I used 1 sheet of each color to make 1 flower (so 2 sheets per flower).
After each flower is fluffed and beautiful, arrange them on the cardboard and hot glue them down. Voila! A beautiful statement wreath for your front door. Happy crafting!

recipe: cilantro lime salsa

This is the easiest salsa and it is really delicious! I found the recipe right here on Pinterest.
All you do is put these ingredients in your food processor and hit the button!
Ingredients:
 1 can of diced tomatoes
1 can of Rotel
1/2 chopped small onion
1 clove garlic (or less)
1 tsp honey
1/2 tsp salts (or less)
1/4 tsp cumin
juice of 1 lime
handful of fresh cilantro
(add some jalapenos if you like the extra spice!)
Yum! Easy. Fresh. Delicious.

diy: fringe garland

For our Cinco de Mayo party, I made these awesome tissue paper fringe garlands! (I found a similar project here from Martha Stewart.) They looked so festive! And they would be perfect for any party - just choose your colors and voila!

And guess what? I made a fun little .gif to show you guys how to make them.
Just fold your tissue paper in half, cut on the fold. Fold in half again, cut on the fold. Fold in half again, cut on the fold. Then fold in half one more time but this time don't cut it. Clip it at the top or just hold it together while you cut the fringe. Then fold over ribbon and tape together on the inside. Perfect! Here I am modeling with one :)
You can hang them from the ceiling, or in front of a table, or over your door (hint hint!) and you've got a party! Happy crafting!

Cinco de Mayo Fiesta!

John and I celebrated Cinco de Mayo in style! We hosted a little fiesta at our apartment, complete with festive decor (DIY'd of course), delicious food and fun friends :)

Our apartment was filled with tissue paper fringe garland (tutorial coming soon) to make it look like a party!

I made 2 different homemade salsas - my corn and black bean salsa, and a restaurant style cilantro salsa (I'll share the recipe for that one with you later!). We also served my favorite southwestern egg rolls (which were devoured) and John's mom's cheesy bean dip (which was also a huge hit and totally gone by the end of the night).
I covered the walls from ceiling to floor in the dining room with streamers. It transformed the whole place! What a statement - it looked exactly how I had imagined it!
Anybody remember this awesome inflatable sombrero cooler from my birthday fiesta in the cave a few years ago?
This fun fiesta banner was a free printable find on Pinterest - perfect!
At one point we even played a few records, including Foster the People :)
It was an awesome night! Everyone came inside from the pouring rain, enjoyed the music, food and drinks and just hung out. Happy Cinco de Mayo indeed!
