Happy HallowEve!

Today I wore my Minnie Mouse ears to work because I am so excited about Halloween (!!) and I wanted to bring a little HallowEve cheer to the office. Of course, tomorrow I will be dressed up as Flo, but that costume wasn't quite ready for it's big reveal. Happy HallowEve!

DIY Halloween

Tomorrow is HallowEve and I am so excited! Living in a Haunted Cave requires lots of fun Halloween decor. Here are some things I made (that you could make too!) to make the apartment a little spookier.
I made this sign to hang by the doorbell. Here's how:
1. Trace the letters and then color them outside of the lines.
2. Cut out each word with funky scissors and paste them on a Halloween themed piece of scrapbook paper.
3. Glue on extra decor. I used some skull heads and a wooden ghost and bat.
4. Attach the entire page to a piece of cork board (for added sturdiness) with spray glue. The spray glue in the can works really well for this type of project but it is really sticky!
We've created a few creepy banners to hang around the cave. This one reads "Trick or Treat" and was simply made out of scrapbook and construction paper. Each letter is hung individually on a piece of twine. I picked the colors knowing I would hang it on our green living room wall.
And of course, at Halloween, you've got to carve pumpkins. Here's mine!

More fun Halloween decor ideas coming soon!

Happy Birthday Mom!

Shorts ... in the winter?

I was looking through the newest J. Crew catalog last night and ran across the winter tights with shorts look. I must admit - I am not a fan. I can understand tights with a skirt, but with shorts?
Even with jorts?
So, I will be straying from this winter look, but I will give J. Crew some credit; they have some nice cardigans and this pencil skirt outfit is pretty. I like the splash of color in a fall outfit and the strands of beads around her neck ... this could definitely be inspiration for my next necklace creation.

Pretty headbands

Vera Bradley now has skinny headbands. How pretty! Hope Garden is my favorite.

Lenny got his costume!

Lenny has finally chosen a Halloween costume. He went with the very versatile straw hat. He is either going to be a farmer, or add some colorful ribbon and be a sombrero wearing mariachi band member. Either way, I just think he is so darn cute.

A Whole Lotta Happy

The NC State Fair was unbelievably fun this year! We ate corn on the cob, ham biscuits, ribbon fries, apple cider freezies, and even tried chocolate covered bacon - yuck!

We rode the Fire Ball and the ferris wheel and my favorite ride was the swings that went up really high and provided us with an awesome view of the entire fairground.

And to top it off, I even won some super prizes, including a fifth place ribbon and an honorable mention ribbon on my scrapbook pages and second place in the Subway $5 Footlong Song Challenge.

We Won!

Lindsay and I won second place at the $5 Footlong Song Challenge this past Tuesday at the NC State Fair!! A while back we submitted lyrics to a bluegrass song about Subway footlongs and the state fair and we were chosen to audition. After those auditions we were the chosen as one of 5 finalists and competed this past Tuesday ... and WE WON! Second Place and a $250 Subway gift card (that's a lot of subs!) YAY

Pumpkin love

How fun! I love these pumpkin snowmen decorations! I feel like one of these guys needs to be present at our pumpkin carving party this year. I have decided to serve this amazing pumpkin bread - doesn't it sound delicious? Pumpkin muffins would be the perfect snack or dessert! Anytime I think of foods made out of pumpkin it reminds me of my mom who used to call my great aunt Myrtle's pumpkin pie's "vitamin P".

What works at work?

No. 2
You listen to youtube videos with your headphones on and laugh out loud. Then you assume everyone around you wants to know why you are laughing so you explain to whoever is listening/can hear you, what the video is about.

Sure that works or I need a new cubicle?

Why did the skeleton go to the party alone?

Because he had no body to go with :)

Last year, I was riding on a Raleigh Rickshaw and was told that funny joke ... it became my favorite and I told it all the time. This Halloween, I've got new jokes - and they are just as cheesy!

What do you call someone who puts poison in a person's corn flakes?
A cereal killer.

How do witches keep their hair in place while flying?
They use scare spray.

What do you get when you cross a vampire with a snowman?
Frostbite.

What works at work?

So today I am starting a series of posts called What works at work? Here we will decide what is appropriate to do at work in your cubicle or office. I will state the situation and you will get to vote - sure that works! or I need a new cubicle!
If people in your office do crazy, awkward, or unbelievable things - let me know and I will feature your office quirks in the series.

No. 1 Clipping your toenails and fingernails in your cubicle where the people around you can hear the clipping sound - sure, that works! or I need a new cubicle! ?

Haunted Cave!

It's officially October and I'm getting so excited about our Haunted Halloween Cave!

Tonight we got this awesome, creepy bat! It looks kind of like the one above, but minus the purple in the ears and ever scarier!
