Friday Day Dreaming

Today, with the threat of snow approaching, I can't help but day dream of Portugal after viewing J. Crew's behind the scenes Passport to Portugal. These two shots are some of my favorites, but I am sure you will want to check it out for yourself - it is such a beautiful collection of photos!

Weekend Brownies

So for Christmas, I got the Perfect Brownie Pan Set (yes, the one you've seen on TV) and I have yet to use it. This weekend, I am going to make some perfectly sliced brownies - delich! Hope you treat yourself to something delicious this weekend!

It's Friday, I'm in Love

Happy Friday everyone! What are you up to this weekend? It is supposedly going to snow here starting tonight around 9pm, which is ironic because it was almost 60 degrees yesterday. Good ol' North Carolina weather. If it does indeed snow, I will be making snow cream, building a snowman, and wearing a big fluffy scarf. It's always a big event when it snows here and everyone rushes out to buy their bread, eggs, and milk (does that mean everyone will be eating french toast?) Here's my little snowman from our "big snowfall" last year (with an apple slice for a mouth)! xoxo

felt ball earrings

Danielle and I had a blast last night making our very own felt ball earrings. I had been eyeing the colorful felt balls at our local jewelry making store Ornamentea, for a while now and I was finally able to make something out of them last night. I chose the pink felt balls, little purple and white glass leaf shaped beads, round little clear beads, pink beads, and square little purple beads to dangle on top.

Danielle used the white felt balls and flat beads perfect for stacking. And they are so light weight!

Here's Danielle modeling her new creation.
What do you think?

charms

My mom found these lovely charms at a flea market in Charlotte and I can't wait to make them into necklaces. Don't you like their pearly white color? I think they would pair nicely with a gunmetal colored chain (like the color of the little ring) and maybe a pretty toggle.

dreaming of: the beach

I saw this tote today (from Boden) and was immediately carried away to the beach. I need this bag to carry my sunscreen (yes I wear sunscreen and yes it is a high spf), a frisbee, my sandals, a visor for shading my face while laying in the sun, a magazine (probably Glamour or In Style), an apple, and a huge soft beach towel perfect for spreading out in the sand. Ahhh, fabulous. What color do you want?

purple flats

I think I need a pair of purple flats. Don't you love these? Don't you want some now?

felt balls

I just love, love, love these colorful felt balls from Ornamentea - one of my favorite stores in Raleigh. I've been eyeing them for a while but I just haven't figured out what to do with them. I almost just want to string them and hang them like a garland around my room because they are so colorful and fun! Well my friend Danielle was inspired to make earrings out of the felt balls, so tonight we are going to try it out. Now the decision is, what color should I use?

pillow cases

How cool are these pillow cases from Urban Outfitters? Just in time for Valentine's Day!
And I've been loving this microphone one for a while now. Isn't it fun? Too bad it wouldn't match anything in my room.

rhymes

How pretty are these rhyming save the date cards from Postal Press? In case you can't read it, it says "hang this tag from your calendar daily to save the date for Ryan and Hailey". I saw another rhyme the other day that I loved for a lingerie party invite (I happen to be throwing one in May) - "Something frilly, something sweet, something to knock John Smith off his feet". Cute!

this little doggie goes to church

I just watched the cutest news story. A small town here in NC is home to a church with devoted members, including a dog named Ralph. This doggie has gone to church every Sunday for almost 2 years and the Pastor says if his sermon goes on too long, Ralph will start snoring. Here's the video.

ps - I must really be loving dogs right now.

new puppy

John's family recently got a new puppy and she is the cutest. Zoe (the puppy) is on the left, and their beagle Ginger is on the right. Zoe is growing so fast that she will be bigger than Ginger before we know it! Isn't she precious?

purple nails

I painted my nails this weekend with this fun shade of purple from OPI. It's my friend's polish - she buys nail polishes simply because of their fun names and this one is called "Do You Lilac It?"

Happy Monday

Good morning! Happy Monday. After a relaxing weekend in SC with John, it's time for a new week. And of course, Monday = The Bachelor. Apparently this week, Jake takes some of the girls on dune buggies. I can only imagine the drama (but at least Michelle is gone!) I had a chance to ride dune buggies in Peru a few summers ago and it was so much fun!

How cute is this little dog with a green bow tie?
and here's another one - so adorable!

love story

I have entered another contest! The Independent Weekly (distributed weekly in the Triangle) is having a love story contest in honor of Valentine's Day and the best submissions will be featured in their February 3 and 10th editions. I, of course, entered the napkin story about how John and I met. I'll let you know if it makes it in the paper! Go here if you want to enter your love story.

Update: I've been asked to include the story since some of you have never heard it, so here it is.

John and I have been dating for over 4 years and every single minute is a complete delight. Our love story has a sweet beginning.
My sophomore year at NC State was about to begin and my friend and I hit the Wolves’ Den for a tasty dinner. While we were eating a guy walked by my table, dropped a folded up napkin in front of me and hurried out the door. I didn’t even see what he looked like! I unfold the napkin to reveal the following words:
I saw you and wanted you to have this.
(his phone number)
John
My friends convinced me to call the number on the napkin, but as soon as the guy answered, he hung up. I call back one more time and a friend of John’s answers. He tells me that John lives in Becton Hall and is also a sophomore. We exchange last names and decide to friend each other on facebook (oh yes, the early days of facebook). Come to find out we had over 30 friends in common and after another conversation we realized we had even played volleyball against each other the weekend before and didn't know it. After late night chats, a dinner at El Rodeo, and a beach music party at Red's Beach Music, we made it official and I was called "the napkin girl" for months. And to this day, I still have the napkin.

and here's the picture I submitted with it - I'll let you know if the story makes it in the paper!

The Diner Review

So I went to The Diner last night for a post - birthday dinner celebration. It was awesome! I am happy to say that we both thought the food was absolutely delicious and we were stuffed when we left. We ordered the buttermilk fried chicken and the Smokeybird sandwich which came with sweet potato fries (yum!). We both loved it, so much in fact that we got a birthday brownie for dessert.

And as we were leaving we noticed another restaurant behind The Diner called "Sauced - NY Pizza/NC Pub" that beckoned us to come back for dinner another night. Has anyone been there yet?

Superbowl Commercials - made in NC?

There is a possibility that one (or 2!) of the commercials played during the superbowl this year will be made by a group of people right here in Cary, NC! Doritos is hosting a Crash the Superbowl Contest and these guys entered 2 videos - "Underdog" and "Kids These Days" - in hopes of having a better chance of winning. Much to their surprise, both of their videos were chosen out of 4000+ entries. So the group from NC represents 2 of 6 finalists and only 3 finalists spots will air. Vote for your favorite here! Check out their site here! ("Kids These Days" is pictured above) Good luck!

flowers around the waist

Since I am the maid of honor in a June wedding this summer, I am on the look out for pretty accessories and things for the bridal party. I just couldn't help but love these little floral belts by emersonmade. And we are carrying yellow flowers! so they are just the right color.

spring shoes

After seeing this picture of brightly colored shoes on Boden's website today, and being outside in 60 degree weather (I can't believe how warm it is today) I just can't wait for spring!

post-birthday

So my birthday was amazing! Complete with a pinata, fireworks (!), some awesome gifts, delicious cake, and fun friends! I got some very cool gifts this year including this amazing flower lamp from my mom. She always has an eye for unique and beautiful things. The best part about the lamp is that you just touch it to turn it on and it has 3 levels of brightness = awesome. Pictures of my celebration and the lamp coming soon!

birthday cake!

Since today is my birthday, I've been dreaming about birthday cake. My beautiful friend Tori made me a Tres Leches cake (since I am having a fiesta with fajitas and margaritas!) and I can't wait to eat it! She even got me sparkler candles that literally sparkle like sparklers on the 4th of July when you light them - I can't wait!

Happy Birthday to Me!!!!

Today is my birthday and it started off wonderfully with homemade waffles for breakfast - look at all that syrup!!
(after all of my birthday surprises this week!)
then I opened my birthday present (wrapped in fun polk-a-dotted paper with 3 sparkly bows on top!) to reveal this fantastic bird cage jewelry stand from Urban Outfitters (that I have not-so-secretly been wanting!)
When I got to work I saw my desk full of yellow decorations (because I love yellow!) and the best birthday banner a girl could hope for! and each balloon on the desk is tied down with an almond joy (!)
It's been such a great day so far I can hardly stay sitting in my chair (which has streamers on it by the way!)

Thank you for all of the birthday love. I know for a fact that I have the greatest and sweetest friends in the world!! xoxo

Before & After - Cork Board

This weekend I finally paid attention to a cork board that has been sitting in my room waiting
for me to give it a makeover. I think it turned out great! Check out this before and after. With an update on the paint (teal over the cork and white on the wooden border) and some pretty ribbon and tacks, it looks like a whole new board!

DIY ice lights

Here is a great, easy DIY project that I read about on Design*Sponge today by guest blogger Sweet Paul. All you need are 2 buckets that are different sizes, some greenery, and a cold winter night - and we definitely have plenty of those! Here are the directions.

breakfast

I had the most delicious breakfast this morning. I toasted a sliced whole grain english muffin, spread peanut butter on it, added some slices of banana, a little bit of honey and a dash of cinnamon. yummm Happy Wednesday morning!
