new restaurant: Pie Bird

Recently, Tori and I went to a new downtown restaurant called Pie Bird.
cute, isn't it?
You can guess what they have on their menu ... pie!
However ... it's almost directly across from the Krispy Kreme and I can't promise that if the hot now sign was on we wouldn't have turned in there for dessert. Tori and I get really excited when the hot now sign is on.

these were some of their daily special dessert pies. there were even more choices than this!
that's a lot of pies!
Anyways, it's on a cute little street surrounded by super cute downtown houses with giant front porches that I want to swing on.
The interior was mostly exposed brick (which I love) and a full bar (which I would have also loved had it not been my lunch break) and paintings on the walls that were rather odd - mostly of skulls and things. They reminded us of The Nightmare Before Christmas more than they did of pie.

We both ordered a savory "hand pie" and salad for lunch and then got dessert pie to go. I got Strawberry Lemonade which was basically lemon pie topped with meringue and strawberries. Honestly it inspired me to make more pies. Sometimes pies get overlooked because of things like cakes and cupcakes but pies are making a comeback in my kitchen this summer. And peanut butter pie is at the top of the list.
~
As for Pie Bird ... would I eat there again? Yea probably, but I would either get the meal or dessert, not both. $5.50 for 1 slice of pie is a bit much knowing I can cook up a whole pie at home.
~
How was your Memorial Day? Did you eat any pie?

ongoing love: poms

seriously, I just love poms (who doesn't?). They make spaces look so happy. This crafty bride made little poms and strung them like a garland. I'm thinking a garland like this would be really pretty strung together with some lights.
the colors in this wedding are just so fun. and that stained glass with those white walls is lovely too!

engagement party: decor

Of course our engagement party had all kinds of personal touches so I thought I would share a few of the decor elements with you.
remember the banner I made?
Mine and John's seats or "thrones" as they were called, haha, had green ribbons on them.
Here's a table of Nicole & John decor that I put together. It included our article from the Independent and the frame I made last week.

engagement party: friends & family

This weekend, John and I had an engagement party :) It was so beautiful and the perfect day for it. Our families and friends came together to eat bbq, play cornhole and celebrate and it was lovely.
There are so many pictures to share, I've decided to break it up into family & friends, decor and food. Enjoy!

wedding crafts

It has begun ... late nights and wedding crafts!
First up is a decorative banner and a matching photo frame that I created to use as part of the "John & Nicole" display that is happening this weekend at our engagement party (woohoo!)
I chose a super fun font and cut out each letter.
Then I used my circle cutter to cut a large circle out of a patterned paper, a medium circle out of the dark purple cardstock and then the smallest circle out of the lightest color cardstock.
Then came the glue ...
~
After the banner was finished (I strung it together with green ribbon and once it's displayed I'll have fun pictures to share of the final product) I worked on a matching picture frame.
For this project I used an 8x10 frame, a 4x6 picture, a 'love birds' die cut, ribbon, and the same patterned paper that I used for the banner. Lovely.
A frame like this would be perfect for any bookshelf :)
Happy crafting!

date night, cake night

date night: Elmo's Diner

cake night: wedding cake testing #3
so many flavors! including vanilla cake with passionfruit filling and lemon cake with lavender filling. who knew lavender could be a filling?

there were lots of pretty cakes in the shop. our cake is being inspired by the topper ;)
yummm. I think I've had more dessert this week (remember the donut) than real food, lol.
