frozen treats: Strawberry Frozen Yogurt

 Happy Friday Eve friends!
With summer right around the corner, John and I finally pulled out our new ice cream and frozen treat maker that we got for our wedding and put it to good use! Our first dessert? Strawberry frozen yogurt!
Have you ever made your own frozen yogurt? The box for this maker is very misleading. It says that your delicious frozen treats will be ready in just 20 minutes. But what you don't realize is what they really mean. What the box should say is: Your frozen treats will be ready in just 2 days of preparation and then 20 additional minutes. If you're thinking about getting one of these babies, just know that's the case and you'll be happy with your machine :)
So to start, you have to strain 5 cups of lowfat plain yogurt for 2-4 hours. Strain yogurt? What the heck does that mean? The directions said a cheesecloth or paper towels would work. I happened to have cheesecloth left over from a Halloween ghost project that never happened so that's what I used. Here's how we did it, just in case you need a reference.
After the yogurt is strained and the ingredients (sugar, strawberries, yogurt) are all blended up and chilled overnight and the bowl is completely frozen and your many hours and hours of preparation are complete... it's time for the 20 minute frozen treats machine!
It started out looking like this, not very frozen. But it kept spinning...
 and spinning...
Until it was frozen and delicious. Just like the box had promised!
It was indeed very yummy! To quote John: "I tell ya what. This is delicious!"
Our next frozen treat? Chocolate ice cream!! WooHoo!
